Check-up

Madelyn went for her 1 year check up (and shots.) For those keeping track, she weighed 23 lbs. 11 ozs. and was 30 1/2". She's really growing up so fast! She received 4 immunizations (2 in each thigh.) She cried. And screamed. But survived. I had grand plans to take her to get ice cream afterwards, but apparently it's silly to think that ice cream places open before 11am. Don't other people eat ice cream whenever they want?
Oh well. We'll have to go another day when I'm off work.
We decided to go ahead and turn Madelyn's car seat to face forward. We're really enjoying getting to interact with her now. This is her on Sunday going for her inaugural forward-facing ride in the car!

Madelyn got a special package in the mail today. Uncle Ryan sent Madelyn a Domo!! You know you're jealous. I'll have to admit that I was afraid that she might be scared when she saw Domo, but she just smiled!

Girls just wanna have fun

We had a fun party. I didn't get a chance to capture too many photos, so I'll have to rely on the photos of others to slowly trickle in. Here are some that I managed to capture...

Madelyn got an Anywhere Chair from us. She LOVES it! She likes to read her books in it and watch Baby Einstein videos. She also likes to......Stand up in her chair! What a daredevil!

Madelyn had a small smash cake and everyone else had a GIANT cake.
This is what happens if you try and give Madelyn cake. Mind you it took her a while to get comfortable with the cake, but once she did...
Even Daddy face-planted in the cake!
Don't take that girl's cake from her!!

In the groove

Madelyn and I had our last Music Together class last Friday. She was having a "teething day" but still managed to enjoy herself towards the end of class. It's amazing to watch her "come alive" when she hears the songs. She's definitely a people watcher though. Even when I sing the songs to her at home, she becomes very attentive. It's sad to see her class come to an end when she was really in her groove. We're looking into a fall class, but we might not get our favorite teachers. Change is good, right?
Warming up.

Jammin'!

Two for One Tuesday

So we've been busy. Planning a party. Sprucing up the house. Swimming. Working. Catching our dog covered in fire ants. You know - living life. And when life gets busy, the blog gets neglected. Never fear, there are plenty of great things to share. So, here's two for one tuesday.

Madelyn is channeling the "dark side" these days - maybe it's her way of dealing with teething. Watch this and tell me she doesn't sound like a certain character dressed in black, voiced by James Earl Jones {not sure if he actually made the breathing noises, but I think you'll get it when you see/hear it.}

Call us crazy, but we did our family/Madelyn's 1 year photo shoot tonight. Outside. Yes, in 100+ degree weather. But, we live in Texas and should be prepared, right? Well, we all sweated but I think our photographer got some awesome shots. Madelyn was all smiles and never cried. Could be the full tummy of Chick-Fil-A. That, and she's a camera hog.

She's slowing transitioning to cow's milk. I don't know if it's the taste, the temperature, her massive teething episode, or all of the above, but she's been a bit leery of the change. We've tried mixing it with formula, different cups, you name it. My good friend Karen came up with Strawberry Nesquik. I just put a little bit {not full strength - VERY diluted} and that did the trick tonight. She guzzled it down.

What a full belly of milk gets you - a delirious look while you ride on your new rocking horse - thanks Grandma D!

Walking - sort of...

She's a pro at taking this back and forth across the living room. Shouldn't be long now before she walks! Happy Independence Day, from our home to yours!

Summer Goals

I have lots of goals this summer.
Educate myself on html {improve the blog.} Work on Madelyn's scrapbook {only one page completed - so sad.} Hang some curtains in our house {out of 13 windows, 7 do not have curtains - not too horrible I suppose.} Finish reading the book I started 3 weeks ago {Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo - also wrote Empire Falls.} Practice some real flute music {perhaps an audition in my future?} Organize both offices {home and work.} Fill in Madelyn's First Year Calendar {you don't even want to know how little of it I've actually done - thank goodness for this blog and photographic documentation.} I could go on and on really.
For now, I'm focusing on html and the blog. It's crazy and tricky. Wish me luck!
